OGA East Coast Race: 1987

Sadly, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the East Coast OGA to cancel their 2020 Annual Race at Stone on the River Blackwater. As we wait for a return to sailing, enjoy David Cleveland’s 10-minute film about the Annual Race, 1987. How many of those boats are still sailing with the East Coast Gaffers over 30 years on?

‘Fanny of Cowes’ races up the River Blackwater

Here’s a short video from 2018 as we look forward to 2021!

Stone Point is always popular for the OGA East Coast Gaffers. Lying along the south shore of the Blackwater Estuary it’s a quiet place, properly named Ramsey Island, although it isn’t an island at all! From the beginnings of the OGA, founded in 1963, Stone Point was the start and finishing place for the Annual Race. After moving to Brightlingsea for many years, the East Coast Committee decided to return to Stone in 2018 for a most successful Race . . . repeated in 2019 and planned for 2020.
